Retirement Income Planning in Pasadena

We help you turn Social Security, a pension and your savings into income that keeps arriving every month. Before you commit to an annuity or a cash value policy, we read the surrender schedule, the rider charges and every beneficiary line with you.

What Retirement Income Planning Covers

Retirement income planning means building a monthly paycheck out of the pieces you already have, then deciding what to add. On our side that usually involves fixed or fixed indexed annuities, permanent life insurance with cash value, and the timing of when each source starts paying.

The products are simple in concept. The details decide whether a plan holds up for twenty years: a surrender schedule that runs two years longer than you thought, an income rider fee charged on the benefit base instead of the account value, a beneficiary line that still names an ex-spouse. We go through those lines with you before anything is signed, because they are hard to undo afterward.

This is the right call if you are within roughly ten years of retiring, or already retired and drawing on savings without a clear order of withdrawals.

What We Go Through With You

Income gap math

We line up expected Social Security, pension and other income against your monthly expenses. The shortfall becomes a number you can plan around instead of a guess.

Pension election review

Single-life and joint-and-survivor options change both the size of your check and what a spouse keeps after you die. We compare them side by side, and where it fits, look at whether a life policy could protect the survivor instead of a permanent cut to your pension.

Annuity contract terms

Surrender periods, crediting caps, participation rates, rider charges and free-withdrawal allowances. We explain each from the actual contract language, not the brochure.

Cash value as a reserve

Whole life and universal life cash value can be borrowed or withdrawn later. We show how a loan accrues interest and reduces what your beneficiary receives, so you use it on purpose.

Owner and beneficiary setup

The contract owner, the annuitant, the person whose life is covered and the beneficiary are separate roles. We check each one, plus contingent beneficiaries, because a mismatch can trigger an unexpected tax bill or send money through probate.

Signs It's Time to Plan Your Retirement Income

A pension election deadline
If you are leaving a plant or refinery job with a pension choice to make, treat the form carefully. Most plans do not let you change the payout option once it starts.
Savings with no withdrawal order
Pulling from the wrong account first can raise your taxable income and shorten how long the money lasts.
An old annuity you don't understand
Annual statements show a value, but rarely the surrender charge left or what the rider costs each year. Read it before you keep it or move it.
A spouse who relies on your check
If income drops or stops at your death, the survivor's budget needs a plan now, not after.
Every market drop hits your budget
Part of your income may belong in something that does not fall when the market does.

How a Planning Call and Follow-Up Run

  1. 1

    The first call

You tell us when you hope to stop working, what will be paying you each month and which accounts or contracts you hold today. Having pension paperwork and any policy or annuity statements on hand makes this part go faster.

  2. 2

    Reading what you already have

We review existing contracts for remaining surrender charges, internal fees, outstanding loans and beneficiary designations. Then we tell you plainly what looks worth keeping.

  3. 3

Options compared on the same terms

We show how each option would pay, what it costs inside the contract and how much access to your money it gives up. Seeing them in the same format makes the trade-offs clear.

  4. 4

    Application and delivery check

If you move forward, we compare the issued contract against what was proposed, confirm every beneficiary and explain the review period you have after delivery to change your mind.

What Shapes the Cost of a Retirement Income Plan

The cost of a retirement income plan lives inside the products, not on a single price tag. Annuities and life policies carry charges that vary with the features you pick. We point out each one so you can decide whether it earns its place.

Riders you add
Lifetime income and enhanced death benefit riders usually carry an annual charge. That charge comes out every year, so it should solve a problem you actually have.
Length of the surrender period
Longer surrender schedules often come with better rates or caps but tie up your money for more years.
Your age and health
For life insurance, your underwriting class sets the premium. For an income annuity, your age at purchase largely sets the payout rate.
When income starts
Delaying income generally raises the monthly payment but leaves fewer years to collect it. Starting now does the reverse.

Retirement Income Questions We Hear

Do I need an annuity to have a retirement income plan?
No. Some plans come down to Social Security timing and the order you draw from savings. We suggest an annuity only when a contractual income floor fills a real gap in your budget.
Can I get money out of an annuity early?
Usually yes, within limits. Many contracts allow a set percentage each year, often around 10 percent, without a surrender charge. Taking more during the surrender period costs a fee, and withdrawals before age 59 and a half can also carry an IRS penalty.
If I pass away, who gets what's left in my annuity?
Two things decide that: the payout option you picked and the name on the beneficiary line. Life-only income simply ends. Period certain and refund options continue paying your beneficiary for the remaining term or balance. On a deferred annuity, your beneficiary receives the remaining value and owes income tax on the gain portion.
Where does life insurance fit in retirement planning?
A permanent policy can replace income a spouse would lose if your pension stops at your death, and its cash value can serve as a reserve. Our Whole Life Insurance and Universal Life Insurance pages explain how each type builds that value. We will tell you if a policy does not fit your numbers.
Can we do this entirely by phone?
Yes. We work with clients in Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte and the surrounding area over the phone, going through documents together line by line.
